Some thoughts from Kathy Yoakum, Tampa Zone President:
"I came to Peoria only because of the LWML convention." I was not the only one to say this. Even though I might still say this, I am thankful that I was able to go to Peoria. The people of Peoria, IL welcomed us with open arms, especially since we came close to taking over the town. Almost all of the hotel rooms in Peoria were occupied by the LWML! The 34th Biennial Convention of the LWML was held in the Peoria Civic Center and was the biggest convention that they had ever hosted! Over 4600 were in attendance.
I attended as the delegate from our LWML Tampa Zone. I enjoyed the chance to help make the decisions that will shape the next 2 years of the LWML. We voted on changes to the bylaws, elected new officers and, most importantly, voted on the 2011-2013 Mission Grants. The Mission Grants Goal in $1,389,569.00, with the total Mite Goal of $1,825,000.00. I enjoyed the time in Bible Study and listening to all of the speakers. We heard from some past misssion grant recipients about how God helped them through the grants.
I saw some old friends and made some new friends, another blessing that God gives us when you're not expecting it!
Please continue to keep all mission grants recipients, LWML officers and all of its supporters in your prayers. Remember, the LWML conventions aren't just for the ladies, everyone is invited! And with that said, I will say this... I'll see you in Pittsburgh in 2013!"
